Red Bird of Happiness and Blessings |

A friend of mine once shared with me, “when you see a Red Bird, you are going to receive a blessing.” Today started as most Sunday mornings for my family. We had breakfast, watched the Today Show and began getting ready for church. Being today was my Sunday to provide the piano music for church, I needed to practice a bit before attending church.
I started practicing the piano when I heard a noise. My piano is located in front of a large picture window positioned so that I may see outside and view my weeping Cherry tree in the Springtime. A lovely site indeed. A Red Cardinal parked itself on the branches of the naked Cherry tree and was singing his heart out. When I stopped playing the piano, he would fly off. I began playing again and the Red Bird returned singing proudly. At first, I thought this was a nonevent...a coincidence although I do not believe in coincidence. After about 10 minutes of practicing the piano, I invited my husband into the study to see this phenomenal. At first, he did not think anything of his invitation. He thought I had invited him to merely hear me practice but then he heard the noise. The Red Bird had returned singing as I played. This game continued for half an hour. When I stopped playing, the Red Bird would stop singing and fly off. Nothing was a distraction for him. Not our white cat perched in the window hoping the Red Bird bird would invite himself inside our home. Not even my daughter. Needing to wrap up my practicing, I concluded playing the piano and the Red Bird flew to the top of the transom on the window and began pecking on the window as if he was inviting me to continue our musical duet. A fluke maybe but I don’t think so. The Red Bird reminded me that all creatures of our God and King can and will offer praises. Even in the midst of these days, there is hope. “I Sing Because I’m Happy” and so when I return to the bench, I will be curious if my new musical friend will return ready to sing Praises. I hope so.
