Get Lost...Literally PDF Print E-mail
Today as I was on my way to pick up my daughter from school, I had a sense of peace about me.  The sunroof was open on the Tahoe and I was enjoying my very own concert with Yo-Yo Ma and Alison Krauss’ interpretation of “Simple Gifts”.  Being a music major in college and having studied music since I was 8 years old, I appreciate music and what it does to our soul and how music can take us away from the stress of our everyday lives. Today was a perfect day for me to get lost in these two amazing artists.  For the past days, I have shed many tears as I watch the devastation of the Haitian earthquake and as the news being reported rapes our family times in the comfort of our homes.  The past ten years my generation has witnessed some horrific tragedies.  We have grieved the lost of three thousand American  heroes  as terrorists attack our country.  We watched, after celebrating one of the happiest times of the year, the Tsunami which swept away hundreds of thousands to their graves.  We watched copious amounts of people sitting on the roof tops when Hurricane Katrina roared into the levies of New Orleans and now we gather again as the devastation of the earthquake in Haiti destroys a country, killing thousands and leaving man’s spirits to be tormented with grief. Those of us living in the Great US of A are suffering epidemic levels of depression as we struggle to overcome this recession and the guilt of living a life of sometimes indulgence.  In all of this doom and gloom is there Hope? Yes, there is hope and today with the warmth of the sun beaming into my portable office and my soul being gently repaired by the inspirational music of Yo-Yo and Alison.  The words are so simple but yet so needed.   We must be reminded.    I encourage you to cleanse yourself of the negative and to allow God’s love to fill the holes that man has created.  The first step for me to get back to my center is to listen to really great music.  Turn the noise off and get lost in the symphonic overtones of a Cello that sings with a mellow hush of melodious tones that takes us away from the pain if only for a moment.  The time has come for us to stop feeling sorry for ourselves and start making a difference.  It begins with one.  One act of kindness.  One donation.  Let’s heal and do for others.  Let’s get lost with “Simple Gifts” and live as we were created to live.
