$40 K for a wedding...Really? |

Excuse me for a moment but I am in sticker shock. After working with one of my up-coming weddings, I was preparing the bride’s mother for the final invoice. This is never fun for me but it has to be done. I was gently preparing the bride’s mother for the Final bill when the bride said, “oh mother, so and so just paid $40,000 for her wedding. I dropped my pen and then jaw. Really? Around here….Wow…what am I doing wrong. Or what am I doing right I should say. The national average for weddings in the US is a little over $20,000. In Dahlonega, the average costs is somewhere around $16,000-$25,000.00. Times are a little trying now but you don’t have to spend $40,000.00 to have a dream wedding. My first piece of advice is for you to seriously think about a budget. There are tons of resources available to assist you with this. At Waters Mill, we can help our bride determine her budget. The trick to budgets is to be honest and realistic. The second bit of advice would be when comparing venues you need to compare apples with apples and oranges to oranges not apples to oranges. This can be tricky with all the wedding jargon but it is well worth your time to wade through the information. Dahlonega is blessed with many wedding venues and there are venues for all budgets. Make sure you are getting good value for your money. Try to resist the temptation if it costs more it must be better. And last but not least do your Research. Read Reviews, Read Reviews, Read Reviews. I encourage you to go to www.atlantabridal.com to check out reviews on vendors. It is a great tool. Also, attend tastings. I would even say it would be to your advantage to offer to pay for a tasting so that you know what you are getting. I can tell you all day long what great food we have at Waters Mill but until you try it for yourself you will just have to trust me. Go to tastings!
My bride will be getting married for a fraction of the costs of her friend but you know what….she will have an unbelievable wedding and start her new journey with her new husband without wedding debt. What a blessing!
