South in the Spring Time PDF Print E-mail
Ahhh...finally.  After one of the coldest and wettest winters we have experienced in North Georgia in the last 30 years there are signs of hope that it Old Man Winter is leaving.   Yesterday in between breaks of wedding planning  at Waters Mill for my clients, I would take a walk on the grounds and be silent listening to Spring arrive.  The birds were singing, the squirrels were scampering, the koi adventured to the top of the pond and the jonquils popped open their heads for a look around.  Ahhhh I do love Spring.

When I was pursuing a career has a youth minister and long ways from home, the Indigo girls wrote and produce a song called “South in the Spring Time”. Thanks to Itunes I have recently reconnected with this song.  I love this Song!  No matter what, this song always brings me to a happy place and with today’s commentaries that’s not always an easy task.

Weddings at Waters Mill remind me of “South in the Spring Time”.  The grass is always green for those verdant weddings, the forty year old snow ball tree erupts with thousands of white blooms, the pink peonies are showy and of course the purple rhododendron is majestic.  It is such a beautiful place filled with peace and harmony.

Come sit with me for a spell and will sip on a cup of hot tea and listen to the silence of Waters Mill  as I hum the Indigo Girls “South in the Spring Time” and  plan the next generations tapestry.

It's a very cold blustery day today in the North GA mountains and I am recovering from the flu watching the Winter Olympics when I received the sweetest email from one of my former clients.  Her wedding was in June of 2007.  I am proud that almost 3 years after the wedding, guests are still talking about her wedding.  Read her email.  Thanks Natalie for making me feel better today.

I wanted to take a moment and tell you a few things!  My Dad and I were talking the other night about my wedding and how AMAZING it was.  He was telling me how people he works with still talk about how it looked just like something out of a Movie or Fairy Tale.  I don't think you got enough credit for all your hard work.  The Guests, Trey and I had a wonderful time.  I wanted to take a moment and tell you THANK YOU for a wonderful wedding....picture perfect wedding.  Sorry it took so long (2/15/10) but I just wanted you to know how much Trey and I enjoyed our wedding.  I am always happy to put in a good word about Waters Mill.  Natalie, Bride

The whirlwind of planning your wedding has begun.  You have the dress, bridesmaid dresses, color swatches, met with the florist, tastings for the reception, rings purchased.  Is there anything we have missed?  Oh yea, Rehearsal dinner.  When Jimmy and I got married, I was completely overwhelmed with all the details and expense of paying for a wedding. Like many, Jimmy and I tried to cut costs for the wedding  by hosting our rehearsal dinner.  We were going to have Bubba Burgers (Jim’s favorite), hot dogs, homemade ice cream and topped off with a Blue Grass Band.  Seemed like a good plan for the naive.  Little did I know how much there was to do before your wedding.  Entertaining out of town guests, making sure all the details were handled, managing vendors and stomping the preverbal fires that emerged while executing a plan.  We had secured a venue to provide shelter for our guests for the rehearsal dinner but it was no where large enough for all our guests.  Had it been a beautiful sunny day in North Georgia, the outcome would have been a little different but being that it rained three inches that day needless to say I was a little stressed out.  Although our plan was to save money and to have a casual affair the eve of our wedding, the rehearsal dinner turned out to be more expensive than if we had taken our guests to a restaurant and proved to be a lot more stress for both of us. We  now can laugh about it but then it was no laughing matter.

Today, Groom’s have many more options.  The rehearsal dinner can be anything you imagine.  At Waters Mill, we assist the bridal couple with planning the perfect rehearsal dinner and creating an awesome experience for their guests.  Even if the wedding is taking place at Waters Mill, you can still host your rehearsal dinner with us as well.  Since we are blessed with many different locations on the property, we are able to create different atmospheres for different events.  From a casual low country boil or traditional BBQ to a soiree fete cocktail party with an elegant dinner to follow.  The decision is yours and when you are dealing with professionals like Waters Mill we give your guests the experience and not the stress.   Call  me and we can discuss in greater length your rehearsal dinner.  Happy Planning!
